Q:
How can I find foundations that accept proposals online?
A:

More and more foundations and corporations are accepting proposals online, and, in some cases, they restrict their application process to online requests only. Others take letters of inquiry over the Internet while still requiring a hard copy proposal. To put your organization's request in the best possible position, we recommend strict adherence to a funders application guidelines and procedures, so understanding how they want to receive the application is important.

When using Foundation Directory Online, enter the phrase "online application" (with the quotation marks) in the Keyword Search box. Foundation Directory Online is available for free use at any of the Foundation Cenetr's library/learning centers or affiliated locations. Use Find Us to locate one near you. Another way to find out if your prospects have an online application process is by looking at their web sites, or, simply try searching the Internet for the keywords, "online (grant application OR proposal)."

online proposals
I love the idea of minimizing the use of paper, but when it comes to online grant applications, I feel they sometimes restrict my ability to share what I'm writing with an organization's leadership. Also, general look and feel of the application tend to make me feel I'm not able to put my best foot forward. It doesn't feel as professional (and somehow, as accurate, maybe) as the paper proposals I create.

Paper or plastic?
We've heard this question many times at the grocery store, but in a fundraising context, I am wondering, what do you prefer, submitting your proposals and applications the old-fashioned way (paper through the mail) or, have online applications simplified the process? Why? Tell us.
